Monterra Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz 2019

Share

The top of the range Monterra Black Label Shiraz does not disappoint. Compared to the Monterra white label everything is a big step up, particularly in the complexity and detail department. There are lots of little nooks and crannies too so you want to sit back and enjoy slowly out of a big glass to see all it has to offer.

It’s an opaque ruby colour – black as night – which is followed by a bold and modern McLaren Vale style with an intense core of dark and blue fruits. What I like most is the light dusting of cocoa nibs, violets and ground spice that provides some delicacy against that backdrop of serious flavour. There is a plushness to the palate but also open knit tannins that provide some aging potential. But it is super delicious right now so why wait?
