Moss Wood Amy’s 2025

Share

A classic Bordeaux Blend style from Margaret River, the wine is 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 8% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. It is worth mentioning that if you really want to get your full wine geek on, no other winery in the country provides as much and as intricate detail about their wines as these guys do. Definitely worth checking out their website (you doubt me? You want to know the Baume of each of those varieties and the date on which they were each harvested, it is all there). Maturation was in French oak barriques, none of them new. Deep magenta with a plum rim, this is a really exciting wine and helps to confirm the reports of 2025 being something very special. Whilst one should be happy with what is to hand and not playing the ‘grass is greener’ card, if this wine is this good then Moss Wood’s Cabernet from the same vintage might be yet another tour de force. The nose here gives us aromas of chocolate, cassis, leather, truffles, tobacco leaves, aniseed and plums. The structure is seamless with immaculate balance and the wine is well focused with excellent length. It finishes with silky tannins. Still youthful and fresh, it surely has at least another dozen years ahead of it. And what incredible value.

Ken was born and bred in Brisbane, Queensland. He had a non-trendy, perfectly happy childhood, in a family convinced alcohol meant instant condemnation to Hades. But a break fishing on the Great Barrier Reef, and some good wine, started a serious obsession that eventually took over. It did not stop Ken being chastised later for drinking Pol champagne, disgusted he’d drink anything made by a Cambodian dictator. Now, Ken mostly writes on wine, champagne and spirits for various newspapers, magazines and books, but is perhaps best known for his work in The Courier Mail. He also has a little sideline writing on cigars, fishing, travel and food. When not writing, fly-fishing for trout in NZ or bonefish on the flats of Cuba, travelling or smoking cigars, he is no doubt following a variety of sporting teams – the occasionally glorious Queensland Reds rugby, the dysfunctional Washington Redskins, the dodgy Arsenal and especially revels in the world restored to its proper axis with the return of the Ashes to their rightful home.
