‘Reserve’ is a term that’s a little overused but with the 2019 Shiraz it’s more than justified. This is a stunning wine, which is instantly alluring with its delightful aromas: mulberry, violets, black cherry, vanilla, dark choc, smoke and a ferrous character; with six years of age now, there’s an almost 50/50 split between the primary and tertiary notes, which should point to its age-worthiness. The palate is sumptuous, juicy and concentrated, with fruit that is still incredibly bright and silky, integrated tannins. It was a pleasure to drink it by itself but it also came alive with and intensified a meal (in this case, a meaty and hearty stew). I’m so very happy that I got to taste it.
