Driftwood Artifacts Margaret River Malbec 2021

Share

Malbec has a reputation in this country as a master blender, not a stand-alone grape variety. Here is a wine that dispels that theory. This is one seriously smart young Malbec. Dark purple hues lead to sweet, redolent berries in black cherry, blueberry and loganberry with baking spices in support. Super approachable, the palate is supple and plush in red fruits, dark berries and woodsy spice. Oak is well handed, paying attention to the fruit and never over-stepping its role.  Springy tannins bring a bright freshness. This is a celebration of a grape destined to be a perennial support player in this country. Here, it stands up to be counted.
