Mountadam Vineyards Five-Fifty Shiraz 2017

Mountadam Vineyards has a proud history. I remember just getting into wine and the Mountadam Chardonnay was everywhere, and I mean everywhere. It was made in that old-fashioned oaky style and the punters loved it, particularly as the wine also showed a little finesse thanks to some cooler vineyard sites. And that elegance in the wines then continues to this day.

The Five-Fifty is their early drinking Shiraz style, taken from the cooler reaches of the Barossa Valley. This wine and the accompanying Chardonnay are beautifully made wines and good value too. The Shiraz has genuine elegance and finesse combined with plenty of fruit concentration. There is blackberry and cherry fruits with hints of tar, earth and spice. It is then supple and juicy with good fruit length. A very handy mid-week red.
