Henry’s Drive McLaren Vale Shiraz 2019

Share

It has been over twenty years since the first Henry’s Drive wines were launched and the label has always been a dependable source of classically styled South Australian red wines. Honest and generous wines that drink well and could also improve in the bottle for up to ten years of age. It is great to see that nothing has changed. They are not flashy wines that let sweet fruit and oak do the talking. They are just good old-fashioned Aussie reds that deliver.

Deeply coloured, it opens with generous blackberry and mulberry fruit that is ripe, fleshy and well balanced by spicy oak. There are some earthy layers too sitting back and adding to its slightly savoury feel. The palate is a juicier proposition with red berries and spice, but keeping in that attractive open-knit frame. It’s concentrated too with a lick of acidity adding brightness and impact. This is a crowd pleaser for sure with the balance to drink well for some years to come.
