60-year-old vines, and a self-proclaimed “old school” Shiraz. While the nose takes a little air to open up, when it does, there’s some lovely red fruited, toasty vanilla crumbed fruit here. Of course, there’s plenty of deep mocha, clove, slate, liquorice and woodsy spiced cherry ripe too, along with a dash of mixed dried herbs. The palate offers a surprising refreshment factor, with the sweet-fruited plushness kept afloat with a tide of beach-breeze acidity. Tannins are firm and plentiful, quickly softening to envelop the palate. This is tasty stuff. It might be old school, but it’s keeping up with the kids on whatever their latest online obsession is.
