Riversdale Estate Syrah 2023

There’s something about this cool climate Shiraz that entices. It’s the pepper. It’s an integral part of the scent together with red fruits, crushed herbs, spearmint and just a whiff of bay leaf. It’s a little more pronounced on the palate, but I think it’s telling you about the lead into vintage with its cool, wet spring which led to reduced yields. This is a wine linear in style, firm in structure and coiled. It’s got time on its side. If opening soon, give it a good decant to let the pepperiness, herbs and spice open fully against the black cherry and plum fruits. I wouldn’t mind some more bottle age, too, in order to let it truly sing.
