Like the Méthode Skinny, the Méthode Eucalypt was born of a desire to shake things up a bit. While Coonawarra Cabernet is already known for absorbing the eucalypt characters of the nearby trees, making it quite distinctive, the Patrick rendition is an endeavour to turn that up to 11. In the 2022, the eucalypt/mint aromas seem less prominent than in previous vintages (or perhaps I’m just more accustomed to them now), while there’s still a lot else going on: red cherry, raspberry, cocoa powder, cassis, stems and earth. The mouthfeel and tannins are powdery, with a concentrated and juicy backbone giving the wine real presence.
