Penfolds Bin 620 2008 – Better than Grange?

Share

WINNER of a Winepilot Trophy for the greatest value wines in Australia.

Yes that’s right – Penfolds Bin 620 2008 is better than Grange, well most of them anyway. Penfolds Grange is the Australian icon, it is the wine that every winelover wants to drink at least once in their life. But there are gems that stand above Grange – Penfolds call them their ‘Special Bins’.

Special Bins come from small unique parcels of fruit only made in the very best vintages – the best of the best. Maybe once or twice every decade these kind of wines come along, so as you can imagine they are super rare and hard to get hold of. You’ be lucky to find this wine at all, and if you could it would be in the hundreds of dollars, just for a glass…..

So how good is it? In one word, epic. Massive and dense but at the same time super complex. There is a huge rush of flavour, layer after layer of luscious Coonawarra Cabernet and Shiraz. And underneath there is also the firm foundations for a long life with lots of very fine tannins. At the same time it is also silky smooth. The Penfolds Bin 620 2008 all comes together in a superbly balanced package which makes it one of the best Australian wines in recent years. Wines like this are above scores but it is 99 Points all the way and best enjoyed over the next 3 decades.
