Henschke Johann’s Garden Grenache Mataro Shiraz 2019

Share

2019 was a bit of a tough vintage in the Barossa with little rainfall and high temperatures helping to keep the yields low and craft rich wines. Grenache and Mataro are generally unfazed by the heat and that is also on display here in a wine that has retained good complexity. Quite deeply coloured, it opens with very pure red cherry, spice, earth and even sightly floral aromas that showcase its open-knit and generous style – despite its youth this wine is already open for business. The palate is slightly more reserved, with meaty, tarry, fruit pastille flavours sitting on a fleshy palate which is supported by supple tannins. Very Henschke with its subtle appeal and a good effort too that will drink well over the medium term.
