Penfolds Reserve Bin A Chardonnay 2020

The Reserve Bin was a key stepping stone in the development of a premium chardonnay style at Penfolds as well as the development of Yattarna, this vintage showing the riper fruit profile of the vintage. Understated nectarine, peach skin and floral fruits combine well with subtle spicy oak to provide a surprisingly delicate style of Australian chardonnay with attractive barrel ferment savoury notes adding detail. The palate is then tangy and acid driven, from which layers of fruit slowly evolve more in the citrus spectrum which are lifted by crushed nut and praline barrel ferment complexity. It is quite tight and compact with a distinct sense of elegance before proceeding to a lingering finish. Still taut, and youthful, this is a wine that will improve with time in bottle over the medium term.
