This comes from a vineyard Geoff Johnston planted with his father back in 1971. It’s always harvested early and in this warm to hot dry year with small intense berry flavours a feature, that is suited to the wine perfectly. This is less about ripe generous fruit but more about poise and savoury dried herb influenced flavours. It is silky smooth with a marvelous integration of oak and fruit with a chalky tannin support to take it to a long finish. I like that little hint of sage bush to the finish.
Ray Jordan has been writing about wine for more than 40 years. His love of wine is as strong as his love of the blues and tasting the thousands of wines that cross his bench each year allows him to indulge in both.
