Podere Brizio Brunello di Montalcino

2016 Vintage
Wow. One look at this reminds me of why Brunello is arguably the king of Italian wines. There is so much going on here that immediately intrigues. High tone red fruits – cranberry, cherry and strawberry sits alongside potpourri and freshly turned soil. The vibrancy and detailed energy of this wine is just brilliant and this wine has the potential for a very long life (if you can hold it for long enough). There is a wonderful interplay of attractive perfumed fruit and savoury complexity that just draws you back for more. An inspiring wine that has modern appeal and the touch of a very skilled winemaker. This wine really blossomed on day 2.

2015 Vintage
Deeply aromatic and opulent at first look. Dark plummy fruits, wild strawberry, coffee, bouquet garni and a very gentle influence of graceful oak. Densely concentrated and powerful with drive that builds across the palate and speaks of the slightly warmer vintage. Classic Brunello acidity offers a wave of freshness and keeps the structure taut and grippy. The generosity of this wine means a vast range of budding matches – classic Pici with meat ragu would be very comfortable alongside this exceptionally accomplished wine.
