Poggio San Polo Brunello di Montalcino 2015

Share

Poggio San Polo is a joint venture between the famed Valpolicella name of Allegrini and their American importer which is yielding some impressive results. The hot and dry 2015 vintage has turned out very approachable wines that are already showing much of what makes this one of Italy’s most revered regions, with the San Polo retaining elegance and balance without the high alcohol seen in some wines. It opens with mixed cherry compote, baked earth and dried thyme aromas with old large oak sitting in the background. The palate is more savoury, earthy and quite supple, already resolved and in peak condition with its mix of truffle and ground spice flavours. It beautifully reserved and subtle before a long and elegant finish.
