The goose theme continues but the style takes a left turn here, venturing into savoury territory. From a top year in the Barossa, Goose-Yard lets it rip with super ripe fruit and leather, earth and tar notes. It’s a sturdy wine, solid in fruit and 15.5% alcohol, all of which are in keeping with the Schubert style. Brimming in black berries, dark plum, a hint of redcurrant with a delightful interplay of confection-like blackcurrant pastille. Chunky tannins are a touch prominent, hence, it earns silver and not gold but it remains a well-made wine. One for the cellar, if you fancy.
