Shiraz blended with Pinot Noir has a proud history in the Hunter Valley. And the Silkman team are one of a handful of wineries doing their best to bring back the glory days. The concept is to add a little Pinot silkiness and perfume to the traditional Hunter Shiraz style.
And it succeeds here in this wine which is bright, pure and multilayered showing blackberry, earthy, pepper and leather fruits supported by some toasty oak. It is dry, mid-weight and balanced but still very young, almost too young. It is also quite tannic and firm. This is a wine that needs some time to show its best and what Hunter Shiraz Pinot blends have to offer.
