From the north-facing Riversdale vineyard planted in 1997, aged in medium toast French barriques for 11 months. This is all primary fruit from the outset before some spice enters the picture. Lashings of red plum, blueberry, dark cherry, and black currant are nicely balanced by cinnamon, nutmeg and mocha. The palate is equally primary fruit driven, with notes akin to the nose but a higher level of mocha bitterness bringing further interest and dimension. The tannins are mocha-laced, too, with a chalky feel adding frame through the finish. A vibrant, flavoursome Shiraz in its youth.
