Hand harvested over three picks, whole bunch pressed to new and seasoned French oak for 10 months. Pale to medium gold colour. A huge lift of high quality oak sits at the fore aromatically – cedar, woodsmoke and vanilla bean with some smoky and flinty reduction sitting beneath. Time in the glass unlocks Meyer lemon, nutmeg, grilled nectarine, and nougat. The palate is sapid and vibrant, with lovely defined fruit taking the lead. Nectarine, peach and baked apple meld with cedar and vanilla again, before ripples of powdery phenolics and firm acid bring frame and long length. There’s a lot going on here. It’s sapid and powerful, though finessed and detailed with good complexity and present-but-controlled oak. Very good.
