Mashed strawberry and rhubarb sit a little hesitant in the glass at first. Some air reveals raspberry compote, subtle wood smoke, delicate baking spices and allusions of forest floor. More pop to the palate — it bursts with poached strawberry, raspberry coulis and rhubarb again, with a dusting of nutmeg spice around the edges. The structure is considerable: assertive chalky, drying tannins constrict the mouth and perky, piercing acidity shoots through the back palate. A little nervy right now — elbows and ears. Will be interesting to revisit once it settles in bottle.
