Vasse Felix Shiraz 2019

Share

I can not remember enjoying a Margaret River Shiraz more than this vintage from Vasse Felix for a very long time, if ever. Vasse Felix have been increasingly sourcing fruit from the cooler, southern end of the region and it has paid off with a wine that would not be out of place in France’s Northern Rhone Valley.

Deeply coloured, this is a sophisticated, powerful and seriously complex example of Australian cool climate shiraz. Gently aromatic charcuterie, white pepper, cloves, cranberry, iron filings and earthy notes are immediately impressive, with older oak sitting just underneath. The palate is more serious with an intense core of dark, spicy fruits wound up tight by firm acidity and mouth coating tannins before a long and tight finish. It is a little sinewy and firm right now, as many great cool climate Syrah begin their life, but, have no fear, this wine will build more flesh over time to reward your patience.
