The palest of salmon pinks greets your eyes on this wine but don’t take that as a sign that it’s light on flavour – far from it. 80% mataro and 20% grenache come together beautifully to provide fantastic depth of fruit – some pretty cranberry and raspberry on show but mataro really leads the way with some more earthy, even meaty edges. You can also feel the underlying fruit power of mataro seen in quality Bandol which builds in the mouth thanks to the pick of some quality vineyards – the mataro coming out of the Yangarra stable. Great length to finish and balanced acidity too so my bet is that it will get better with another year or two in bottle.
