The vine age sits around 22 years for this Mendoza clone, and it spent 9 months in 2-4 year seasoned 500L puncheons. A Chardonnay that feels unadulterated as far as Chardonnay’s go. Of course Brendan Hawker has probably agonised over barrel origin and picking times but that’s what you feel from this Single Vineyard. What you get is sunflowers, lemon cream and white peach skin. Lilies of the Valley, sea shells and buttercream icing. A great example of why malolactic is not needed when the grape provides a slew of richness and energetic texture. Acidity is washing and agile without being sharp. A fantastic wine that’s a true pleasure to drink, and will cellar well for another 3-5 years. Drink alongside Cacio e Pepe as nothing more is needed to make this shine.
