Yangarra Estate Vineyard Old Vine Grenache 2019

Share

For fans of grenache, Yangarra’s Old Vine release is generally a wine to stock up on every year. Made from vines planted in 1946, it is not only fantastic value but also quite a serious wine. And the 2019 version is in one word breathtaking – I can’t remember a better wine under this label.

It is an elegant expression of grenache that already displays pinot noir like subtlety. Red currant, leather, spice and earthy aromas sit over a bed of older oak. In the mouth the wine is a story of supreme harmony and balance. Mid-weight fleshy fruits are underpinned by a core of polished tannins that then lead on to a long and silky finish. It is a cracking wine to enjoy now and over the next ten years which needs some serious food to do it justice – coq au vin all the way.
