There was so much to like about this wine, and not just the fact that it had a drawing of two ducks and a cat on the label. The nose was vibrant and I spent quite a lot of time just smelling the wine, which gave off oodles of raspberry, strawberry, confectionery, bramble, black cherry and a perfumed, violet note, plus some cola and dried fruits from ageing. The palate is even livelier, with chalky tannins and powerful fruit flavours. There’s a touch of alcohol heat yet it goes unnoticed if the wine is paired with food. On the second night, it looks even more stunning.
