Z Wine Rustica Grenache 2020

The Zerk sisters once again deliver the goods. This is an enticing medium bodied red that gets me excited. It entices with open arms, offering a strawberry and raspberry nose, followed by white pepper and star anise as it opens up. The palate is silky smooth, soft with a fine powdery tannin texture. Absolutely delicious to drink, it is sweet and spicy, which adds interest to the red fruit profile. To match I prepared a chickpea soup – such a comfort food. I added diced tomato sauce, cabbage and chorizo which I pan fried first, to make it crunchy. The interaction between the wine and the tomato sauce was particularly attractive. The palate gained in weight and filled the middle with dark cherry, resulting in a fresher finish than the wine in isolation. A Grenache that I keep coming back to time after time, and with pleasure I recommend it to everyone.
