Like the sparkling, this still Roussanne shows appealing varietal character – I love the waxiness that often comes with the grape – but as it’s made from a single vintage and lacks the addition of bubbles, you see the wine in a more pure form and with some bottle age. The aforementioned wax is noticed first, alongside lemon, hay, peach, camphor, some cream and smoke. The palate is delightful, offering silkiness, good phenolic weight and brightness of fruit. I had it by itself and the with food, and the savoury notes of the wine joined seamlessly with the tangy, mellow flavours of the cheese.
