Lovely restraint on show with an alluring perfume of black cherry, blueberry and blackberry melding with graphite, crushed rocks, clove, black pepper, flickers of coal and dried violets. There are some earthy, mulch-like notes with air. With time, the savouriness features over the fruit, and in a very positive way. The palate is poised and cool – the latter thanks in part to a vein of minerality shooting through blueberry, black cherry, black pepper, crushed rock, and graphite again. There’s a stacked-but-fine feel to the firm, youthful, grainy tannins that put a solid frame around the finish to long, persistent length. As always, Alkina have released another wine of eminent class and finesse while still maintaining a strong regional stamp.
