The Artisans of Barossa mob is a group of seven like-minded winemakers spread across the wider Barossa zone, which includes northern and western districts as well as the more defined region of Eden Valley. This wine is a collab effort, a barrel selected from each of Hobbs of Barossa Ranges, Schwarz Wine Company, John Duval Wines, Sons of Eden, Purple Hands, Lienert Vineyards and Spinifex Wines, matured for around a year in seasoned French and American hogsheads. Essentially it’s a round-table expression of the Barossa’s hallmark variety and viewed in that context everything is in order.
There are your classic compote plum aromas, the spices in a darker, sweeter mode like star anise, cinnamon and clove though with definite black pepper as well. It drinks smoothly, like liquid dark chocolate with fruit and nuts, and it lingers sweetly as well. If you can, give a decent decantering – it comes up for air with further delight.
