A wine with deep pools of black fruit and intensely savoury flavours. Mulberry and blackcurrant, kombu and cassis. There is a black cherry compote and the kind of blackened tree bark, left decades after a fire has swept through. Granite and potting soil, caraway spice. Knowing nothing about where this fruit is sourced from, it feels as though it’s from old vines, for its deeply concentrated fruit with glistens of blueberries throughout as well. The palate sweeps upwards with well integrated acidity and the satisfying middle palate energy that only comes from a high quality site. There are compelling savoury notes that are not of oak or bunch, that have me captivated. It feels earth born and ancient. I cannot imagine there is much stock of this, considering the vintage, it’s a wine worth your attention, a flickering candlelight and someone you love to nestle into. Drink now or will cellar well for another 6-8 years.
