Bec Hardy Pertaringa Scarecrow Sauvignon Blanc 2024

Share

From the Adelaide region, a scarecrow is still a necessary part of the armoury to protect the grapes from the local birds. Hence, the name. 85% of the fruit is from the Battunga vineyard at Kuitpo in the Adelaide Hills, planted by Geoff Hardy, in the 1990s. The remainder comes from the Lower Tintara vineyard in McLaren Vale, part of which was planted by Thomas Hardy, in the 1880s, although not the Sauvignon Blanc. Talk about keeping it in the family. I’m only surprised that anyone outside the family is allowed to drink any! A pale lemon hue, the nose gives us gorgeous tropical notes. There is passionfruit and pineapple, as well as white peaches, a hint of gooseberries and a flick of citrus. A classic Savvy for those who like it in this style. Clean, bright and fresh with zippy acidity, it is of medium length. A fine example which will provide enjoyable drinking over the next three years.
