Bekkers McLaren Vale Grenache 2023

Share

As the back label reads this is a story of soil and soul and as the 2023 is sourced from 2 vineyards in Blewitt Springs, followed by one in Kangarilla and Onkaparinga Hills, it is also a story of sand. The cool and late season plays into the hands of the fine, floral tones of elegant Grenache. Violet, a hint of rose petal and dusting of pink peppercorn. Recurrent and fresh raspberries adorn a climbing vine of ivy and nasturtium. There is a warm note of paprika and red clay too. The palate is slinky with acidity that swivels its way throughout the restrained tannins. A wine that could fit nicely, wedged between the great finely fragranced wines of the world, snuck in between a Gamay and Nebbiolo this is why Grenache can wear so many wondrous guises. This is stunning in all its delicacy and tenderness, and the kind of wine style I seek out time and time again. Drink with poached Bavarian Weiss Wurst or white sausage and sweet mustard.
