A classy wine and a very encouraging example of the heights Bellbrae Estate is capable of reaching. Attractive from the outset, with plumes of raspberry coulis, plum and mashed strawberry, quickly complemented by whole nutmeg, clove-studded orange and red rose. Pine needle, undergrowth and delicate stemminess follow with air. The palate has lovely textural flow and a suave feel. Raspberry coulis, clove, forest floor, dark cherry, plum and orange zest glide through before fine-etched, sappy tannins bring it home to good length. A fresh vein of acidity keeps things lifted and energetic. This feels very complete and confident — an excellent release.
