Bellvale fits the old – barely used, let’s face it – Pinot G Scale, perfectly. It literally screams archetypal pinot grigio which, according to the Pinot G Scale created by the Australian Wine Research Institute, is thus:
*higher acidity
*fresh citrus
*touch of fruit
*pear
They’re all there by degree in the Bellvale pinot grigio which hails from Berrys Creek in South Gippsland. And I’d add preserved lemon and ginger to the mix, which brings a savoury note. There’s a charming light spice, too, and a mineral thread. In fact, it is quite complex for a grigio (which is not meant as an insult) with more intensity than some.
Big thumbs up.
