Best’s Thomson Family Shiraz 2020

Still very much a work in progress in that the journey is just beginning for this lovely wine. Give it a swish or three to open up – there are some tightly packed layers of flavour to release. There’s always an extra degree of class associated with any 2021 Victorian red – it was that kind of outstanding vintage. It’s here in the breadth and length of flavour abundant in black fruits, plum, aniseed, cinnamon, star anise, wood smoke, vanilla pod and chocolatey richness. Well-cut, savoury tannins define and enhance a wine sourced from the vineyard’s oldest Shiraz plantings dating back to 1868. A terrific wine. Still has quite a way to go, but everything is here.
