With its propensity for making huge, alcohol-driven wines, Grenache is actually a great contender for carbonic maceration (which I wrote about here for Winepilot a while back). Notes of strawberry and raspberry confectionery predominate, joined by black cherry, cinnamon and kirsch. As the wine breathes, it becomes more savoury and serious. The palate is juicy and delicious, with fruit sweetness and immense freshness. I had it by itself and then with some spicy food, it was incredibly tasty on both fronts. Whilst it’s made for early drinking and not to be overthought, I think it’s a mightily enjoyable wine.
