Barrel selection for this flagship with 42% new French oak. Garnet ruby with a darker rim than the estate. A bit of a dichotomy: tighter, closed and yet more muscular than the “estate” release. More brutish on the nose with earthy, savoury forest floor, dank cherry, kirsch, candle wax, char and stalky spice. Ropey, sinewy tannin keeps the medium body bound while the savoury, brooding dark edged fruit is allowed a little flourish towards the end. Great structure and will be long lived.
