Calo Joven Rioja 2020

Share

Joven literally translates to ‘young’ so this Rioja is made for early drinking and has not seen any oak. Jovens are a great place to start for a first dip into what is one of Spain’s top wine regions, which is also the traditional home of tempranillo. Jovens can be a bit light on but no such issue here with good depth of colour and flavour. There is an array of black and blue fruits with a liberal sprinkling of tobacco plus dark earthy tones. Some more red berries and cherry come out to play on the palate with slightly rustic tannins to remind you of this wine’s Spanish heritage. It’s an impressive Joven style for mid-week drinking.
