Castello di Meleto Chianti Classico Riserva 2017

Share

A big step up here from the standard Chianti Classico from Castello di Meleto – more structure, more power, more depth and just plain delicious. It is also helped along by a decent splash of Merlot on top of the classic Sangiovese which adds some mid-palate flesh to balance out the oak and tannins as well as providing upfront drinkability. The aromas are dark and brooding – dark cherry, cherry pip and old wood pile all wrapped up nicely by toasty oak. The palate is then well constructed with plenty of fruit supported by ample acidity and tannins giving a firm edge to its savoury, rustic dark fruits. Delicious with slow cooked lamb shoulder now but also has good aging potential for the medium term.
