Cherry ripe, dusty earth, and dried cranberry make way for game meat and an ashy nuance in a savoury and slightly rustic opening. Air unlocks a cherry stone minerality giving the aromas lift and shape, along with an umami bite and a glimmer of tomato leaf in the background. The palate has a lifted and cooling mineral feel with eager and nervy tannins asserting from the outset to wrap around a burst of cherry, cranberry, earth, and subtle mocha. These assertive chalky tannins constrict the mouth before yielding to a cleansing line of cherry acidity which draws freshness and length. There’s a nice balancing act between rustic charm and mineral energy here. Slightly nervy now and packed with interest which should only increase as the wine unfolds in the cellar.
