A striking, individually-style Syrah from Western Australia’s Geographe wine region. There’s considerable fruit weight to this wine enlivened by the role of spice – it’s quite a vibrant and attractive addition. Aromas of black cherry, plum, aniseed, fennel seed and pencil lead/ graphite oak. Spices really come to the fore on the palate highlighted by black and red fruits, chocolate, fennel, earth and ginger root. A vein of gentle oak runs the full distance of the wine. Geographe is home to some 36 grape varieties but Shiraz – aka Syrah – probably deserves special recognition. This reserve Syrah shows its class and is a stand-out wine.
