De’ Vasari Chianti Riserva 2015

Chianti Riserva, under $50 – surely that is a typo, but apparently not. And while this is not the kind of Chianti Riserva that you can put in the cellar for decades it does absolutely show the benefits of extended aging helping to iron out any edges. It’s deeply coloured for its age with a red cherry hue and quite complex too thanks to seductive dark berry fruits now softening and showing some aged complexity in the form of charcuterie and spice. There is then attractive upfront impact of juicy dark fruit flavours over a core of earthy spice, plus tannins that are supple and well integrated, which support a finish of reasonable length. A super introduction to the Chianti Riserva style.
