Kilikanoon Mort’s Block Watervale Riesling 2020

Share

Just two years old and creating a big impression from the first sniff with stunning aromatics to the fore. This is Clare Valley Riesling amplified with a powerful scent rich in lime cordial, grapefruit, apple and citrus blossom. The citrus motif continues afresh, at its insistent best, with a core of lime, lemon curd, crab apple and orange peel. Love the length to this little beauty and the limey twist to close. Classic stuff. It is both concentrated and fine thanks to some juicy, filigreed acidity. That acidity will bring with it extended potential for bottle ageing which is characteristic of this top single vineyard Riesling. Mort’s Block, boasting old, low-yielding vines planted in 1970, courtesy of Mort Mitchell, father of winemaker/proprietor, Kevin Mitchell, highlights the elegance and all-round class of the Watervale sub-region of the Clare Valley. And all of that for $25!
