Domaine Naturaliste Discovery Syrah 2020

With no Rachis made in 2020, all the fruit was declassified into the Discovery Syrah and a ‘super cuvée’ was made. The resulting wine is fragrant and plush – a rich, deep ink in the glass and with gorgeous bright fruit concentration from whole berry fermentation. Aromas of blueberries, blackberries, black cherries, and creamy vanilla abound. The palate is ripe and smooth, and full of plush fruit richness, balanced by a fresh burst of acidity and then a savoury liquorice finish. Grippy tannins complete the picture and put me in mind of a dish of grilled lamb backstrap from the BBQ with a roasted beetroot salad. Excellent value.
