Domaine Naturaliste Discovery Syrah 2021

What a ripper of a wine. If anyone understands Syrah in Margaret River, it’s the fabulous and flamboyant Bruce Dukes. However, don’t be mistaken: this might be a great value and easy drinking style of Syrah, but it’s far from simple. Opening with bright red fruits and slightly dusty notes of ironstone soil, it’s laced with the floral delights of crushed red rose petals and oodles of spice. There’s a distinctive Margaret River salinity that edges in sideways too. Mid to lighter in weight on the palate, this offers up juicy fruit, hints of aniseed, chalky tannins, mouth-watering acidity and a restrained elegance that belies the price tag. Sitting towards the front palate, there’s some solid length to each sip – a fab summer red wine.
