Opaque with a ruby rim. Aromas of mulberry, blackberry and black plum are followed by savoury notes of black olive, tar, pepper, and meat. The savouriness builds into the fruit with air, tempering its initial dominance. The palate is full bodied, dark and brooding. Blackberry and black plum burst through the mouth yielding only to a touch of mocha and coffee ground bitterness before an assertive vein of grainy tannins and cleansing acidity pull things into line. The finish melds dark fruits and bitter mocha notes. This is nicely put together in its style, with $27 making for a very good deal.
