Gundog Indomitus Rutilus Shiraz Tempranillo Grenache Hilltops 2024

Share

With this wine, the team have been looking to step outside their comfort zone and explore what they can do with less common grapes. Well, perhaps less common than their usual suspects. All that said, there are few winemakers who push the envelope quite as much as these guys, so it will be fascinating to watch their progress in the coming years. The blend for this release is 57% Shiraz, 29% Tempranillo and 14% Grenache. The Shiraz came from a range of vineyards in the Hilltops region, but the Tempranillo and Grenache is solely from the Moppity Vineyard. Older oak was used with maturation for a period of sixteen months. 366 dozen made. Quite a bright magenta, this is an earthy, savoury style with notes of mushrooms, cold tea, bergamot, dried herbs, kirsch, fresh beetroot, aniseed, warm earth and soy evident. There is good intensity here, and decent length, through to slightly powdery tannins. An attractive style showing some refinement, to be enjoyed over the next four to eight years.
