Harewood Estate Mount Barker Riesling 2021

Summer is coming and it is time to break into the new vintage of Great Southern Riesling. James Kellie of Harewood Estate offers some of the best value wines from the area, and also showcases the quite different styles across the region. Mount Barker is ever so slightly warmer than the other zones, although absolutely still crafts a cooler climate, finer style of Riesling. It tends to be more exotic than the others in the Harewood range and that is certainly true in 2021. Pale in colour but immediately quite fruity and expressive with layers of ripe guava and pear fruits lifted by a nice little touch of spice. It’s then dry and fresh, but also textural and rounded on the palate with a bit of grip too. It’s an earlier drinking style and ideal for a mixed sushi platter.
