Henschke Stone Jar Tempranillo 2025

A touch smoky and gamey to start, the fruit a little coy. Air reveals black cherry, delicate clove, blood plum, coffee grounds, subtle pepper and allusions of dried violet and black tea. It does feel tightly wound at this young age. There’s more generosity to the palate, with plum, blackberry and black cherry making up the core, while delicate woody spice and subtle mocha-like bitter tones provide support as it glides to decent length. Eden Valley’s cool elevation is an intriguing home for the variety, and the structure here suggests the patience will be rewarded — revisit from 2027 or beyond.
