A very decent little Chardonnay here and punching way above its recommended price point. A bit of insider info to its winemaking explains a lot: 20% of this wine spent 4 months in new French oak barriques, partly to add some complexity but also to “season” the barrels before being filled with top-shelf Cabernet. In terms of styling, the wine sits more in the citrus camp than rich and riper stone fruit – think grapefruit over white nectarine in flavour terms, with some oak spice and tightness in the palate. You could pour this in places where the fancy folks would usually tut-tut over wines at this price. You’re welcome!
